We have owned homes in the past but are currently leasing. We have property to build a house, but we do not have money for a large down payment. Are there FHA loans available for new home construction. If so, are the guidelines different than new purchase? We have had to work to rebuild our credit after the recession, and it's still a work in progress. I'm curious if the standards and guidelines are more rigid for this type of loan, if they are available. Thanks for your help!

I was told I can only apply for an FHA loan because we have good income, but a thin credit history. How can I avoid the mortgage insurance on an FHA loan?

The FHA website says "FHA requirements include mortgage insurance primarily for borrowers making a down payment of less than 20 percent." So can I assume 20% or more will eliminate PMI?

Thank you! :)

I am looking at purchasing a new house, this would be new construction in a planned community. I currently have an FHA loan on my current house. I have enough equity in my current home along with assets to have a 20% down payment on the next home. Is it possible to start the house and mortgage before selling my current home?
